Amendments to the Network Code of the Gas Transmission System in view of the updated gas quality standard

In accordance with good practice and the recommendations of European energy legislation, the transmission system operator invites representatives of the interested public to submit any comments, proposals or additions to the draft text of the amendments to the Network Code of the Gas Transmission System.

The updated gas quality standard EN 16726:2025, adopted in Slovenia as SIST EN 16726:2025, introduces certain changes regarding the integration of renewable and low-carbon gases into gas networks.

At Plinovodi d.o.o., as the gas transmission system operator, we began implementing these changes already in 2025, when, pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2024/1789 on the internal markets for renewable gas, natural gas and hydrogen, we introduced a permitted hydrogen concentration of up to 2% in the gas transmission system (Network Code for the Gas Transmission System, Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 41/2025, hereinafter referred to as: Network Code).

With the present amendment to the Network Code, we will align the permitted oxygen content with the updated standard SIST EN 16726:2025 (the first table in Annex 2 to the Network Code) and will also introduce the monitoring of certain additional parameters in connection with the injection of biomethane and synthetic methane into the transmission system (the second table in Annex 2 to the Network Code).

These amendments follow European decarbonisation guidelines for gas systems and enable greater integration of renewable gases while ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the transmission system. No other amendments are envisaged as part of the present update of the Network Code.
