PLINOVODI and PLINACRO sign Joint Statement on Increasing the Capacity of the Gas Transmission Interconnection between Slovenia and Croatia

20. 05. 2026
The increase of the transmission capacity of the Rogatec gas interconnection will provide Slovenia and the wider region with a more reliable gas supply and access to additional gas sources from Croatia, including the LNG terminal on the island of Krk. The Statement represents an important step towards greater energy connectivity, enhanced security of supply, and greater resilience of energy systems in the region.

Ljubljana, 20 May 2026 - The gas transmission system operators PLINOVODI d.o.o. and PLINACRO d.o.o. today signed a Joint Statement in Ljubljana on increasing the capacity of the Rogatec gas interconnection in the direction from Croatia towards Slovenia.

Upgrades of the gas transmission network in Croatia will enable the transport of larger gas volumes between the two countries and further strengthen Slovenia’s energy connectivity with the region. This will enhance security of supply, resilience of energy systems, and the stability of the regional energy market.

On the occasion of the signing, the General Manager of Plinovodi d.o.o., Mr. Matija Bitenc, MSc, emphasized:

“The signing of this Statement represents an important step in the cooperation between the gas transmission system operators of Slovenia and Croatia and in their joint efforts to ensure a stable, interconnected and reliable long-term gas supply, as well as the efficient regional operation of transmission infrastructure.”

The President of the Management Board of Plinacro, Mr. Ivica Arar, emphasized:

“This joint statement confirms the many years of successful cooperation between Plinovodi and Plinacro. I am particularly pleased to highlight that, through the construction of the Zabok–Lučko main gas pipeline, we have enabled an increase in the capacity and availability of gas from Croatia, which will further strengthen the security of supply for the countries in the region connected to gas transmission systems.”

The Joint Statement also confirms the coordinated cooperation of both companies in carrying out all the necessary technical, regulatory and operational activities to ensure the timely offering of new capacities on the market, in accordance with European legislation and inter-operator agreements.

Key Technical Information

The upgrade includes the construction of PLINACRO transmission pipelines on the Zabok–Lučko, Bosiljevo–Sisak and Kozarac–Sisak sections.

Following completion of the first phase of the upgrade on the Croatian side, expected in mid-2026, transmission capacity from Croatia towards Slovenia at the Rogatec interconnection point will increase to up to 100,000 Sm3/h. Following completion of all infrastructure works, expected by the end of 2026, the capacity will increase to up to 170,000 Sm3/h, depending on system pressure conditions.
